The Lisbonners experience is the most complete, covering all the main areas of the city of Lisbon, including the 7 Colinas and the Belém area. The route has a total of about 50 km, of which 12 km are in two of the most challenging areas to complete in any other way in the same period: the Medieval Hills and the Romantic Hills.
We start by walking along Lisbon’s main avenues, which take us to the architecture of the Estado Novo – the dictatorship that dominated Portugal for most of the 20th century. We will also have some glimpses of the past centuries, as is the example of the beautiful Bullring of Campo Pequeno. The destination is Parque das Nações, where Expo98 took place, which left behind one of the most modern areas of Lisbon and Europe.
From here, we leave for the Medieval Hills. We will discover the origins of Lisbon. How it was founded, conquered to the Moors, and a timeline of almost 3,000 years of different civilizations. We will also explore the narrow medieval streets and marvel at the views from the city’s main viewpoints. It is the area of the town with the steepest hills.
As far as the Romantic Hills are concerned, as difficult to traverse as the Medieval ones, you will be in contact with a city renewed after the Lisbon earthquake of 1755 – the biggest ever in Europe. This is the area of beautiful palaces, gardens, and the chicest neighborhoods. Together Medieval Hills and Romantic Hills form the 7 Hills. The tourist bus and tram don’t even cover 50% of what you can do with us.
On the way to Belém, we will stop at the creative LX Factory and see, in addition to the emblematic Discoveries Monument, two UNESCO World Heritage Sites, the Jerónimos Monastery and the Belém Tower. They are the prominent landmarks of the Maritime Discoveries period. A large part of this area cannot be covered by tram 15, nor by tourist buses.
Here’s everything you can do with us, in a full day, in 4h to 6h! By your means, it would take 4 to 5 days without being able to complement it with our explanations and enjoy our company.
